CHARLOTTE, N.C.—In only their second outing of the season, Haus Motorsports and driver Lindsey Trausch are making strides as the Carolina Ford Focus Series made its first appearance at Anderson Motor Speedway located in Anderson, S.C. The day was not free from complications however, as brake failure in the first practice session threatened to end the day early for the start-up team.
"When we unloaded we knew that practice time was going to be valuable since this was our first look at the track so you could say we were in a bit of a panic when we didn’t have any brakes going out for the first practice," commented Chris Trausch, owner of Haus Motorsports. "Luckily we regained our focus and with the help of Hank Scott got the brakes straightened out and were able to make it out for the second practice."
The fifth car to qualify for the 35-lap feature, Lindsey Trausch would end up in the 10th starting position with a 16.54-qualifying lap on the 3/8 high-banked asphalt oval.
"I’m happy with qualifying tenth but can’t help but think that if we could have gotten on the track in the first session we could have put down a better lap," explained Lindsey Trausch, driver of the Haus Motorsports, LunaseaMedia Productions Stealth. "I’m still getting adjusted to the car and how I need to drive it so I definitely could have used a couple more laps before going out to qualify."
Although this was Trausch’s first trip to the track and only second time out in a midget, she proved to be a quick study working her way to the ninth position and shaving nearly three-tenths of a second off of her qualifying lap with consistent laps throughout the race.
"The car handled great at the beginning of the race but got tight in the center of the turns towards the end," continued Trausch. "I was able to consistently hit my marks and work my way up to the eighth place car but didn’t quite have enough gear off the turn to really challenge for the position.
"This race really says a lot about our team and ability to keep learning each outing," Trausch remarked. "Neither Chris or I have a lot of experience at oval track racing so to go out and overcome the adversity we faced during the first practice and pick up three-tenths on the track says a lot about the potential we have if we keep learning. We’ve got a month before we head to South Boston for the last race of the season so hopefully we can get a lot of testing in before then and maybe pick up a position or two."
