SOUTH BOSTON, Va.—The start of Saturday's Carolina Ford Focus Midget Series 25-lap feature at South Boston Speedway located in South Boston, Va. marked not only the start of the 2005 racing season but also the inaugural season for Haus Motorsports and driver Lindsey Trausch. Although the team competed in the final four Carolina Series events in 2004, Saturday's South Boston opener kicks off the first full season for the rookie team and driver.
Trausch started the day off solid with a ninth place qualifying effort in the 22 car field with a lap of 16.554 seconds around the 4/10-mile, semi-banked asphalt oval. Taking the green from the inside of row five, Trausch held her own early in the race until the caution flew on lap 12.
"Going into the race I felt pretty comfortable with the car," remarked Trausch, driver of the LunaseaMedia Productions Stealth. "We did a lot of adjusting during practice that allowed us to put in a good qualifying run and up until the caution I was getting into a pretty good rhythm in the feature."
Following the restart, Trausch fell back to the 16th position where she would finish the day.
"I have mixed emotions about today," explained Trausch. "On one hand I'm disappointed that I got out of rhythm after the restart and didn't drive the car harder but on the other hand I have to keep reminding myself this is only my fifth race and still have a lot to learn.
"As a team we moved in the right direction making the car better through practice," Trausch continued. "And as a driver, every lap I make gives me a little more experience to learn from. I recognize where my strengths and weaknesses were today and can't wait to come back in April so I can apply what I learned."
Following a one month break the Carolina Ford Focus Midget Series will travel back to South Boston April 23.
