HICKORY, N.C. - Following a near season-ending crash in the first heat race of the June 11 dirt Carolina Ford Focus Midget event at East Lincoln Speedway, Lindsey Trausch and her Haus Motorsports team worked countless hours over the next four days to have the teams injured Stealth machine ready for the June 16 event at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway located in Hickory, N.C. Hoping just to show up and collect points, Trausch surprised herself when her Haus Motorsports, LunaseaMedia Productions Stealth rolled off the trailer four-tenths quicker than its previous showing at the .363-mile, semi-banked oval.
?It?s been a mad dash this week trying to get the car race ready so I was just happy we even made it to the track, let along to be quicker than we have ever been there before,? explained Trausch, driver of the Haus Motorsports Ford Focus midget. ?Monday morning my husband (Chris) along with Brad Noffsinger and Mark Dailey had the entire front end cut off this car, were straightening the down tubes and welding on a new front end. They said the car would either be a piece of junk or better than before?I?m glad it was better.?
In a rare occurrence, the evening would start off with two heat races instead of qualifying with the field being set by a pill draw. Drawing the 14th pill for the 14 car field, Trausch would start dead last in the second of two ten-lap heat events and would move up to the sixth position before the checkered flag would fall giving her the inside row six starting position for the 25-lap feature.
Trausch would climb as far forward as the eighth position in the feature before spinning on the 12th lap following light contact with the #77 of Lyndsey Tilton which would line Trausch up at the rear of the 14 field for the restart. Following the restart, Trausch would have her elbows up and fight back to finish in the ninth position.
?Although I feel like I drove like a rookie the first part of the race, I can?t be very disappointed considering the week we had,? explained Trausch following the evenings event. ?I can?t thank Chris, Brad and Mark enough for all of their hard work. The car was only inches away from being a complete loss after last weeks wreck so to come out here and finish in the top ten is pretty satisfying.
?I think we are starting to prove ourselves as a team and I?m learning more as a driver each outing,? continued Trausch, ?so hopefully we can gain some momentum continue to have strong finishes.?
Following a two-week hiatus, the Carolina Ford Focus Midget Series will be back in action Sunday, July 3 at the Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, N.C.
